“CLEAN GIRL” MAKEUP

 Hi guys! Today, we are going to discuss the most popular makeup trend post-pandemic: clean girl makeup. It’s been booming on all social media, especially on Tiktok, with many girls sharing their versions of this so called aesthetic. But what does it mean to look “clean”?

It’s all about achieving a natural, radiant, flawless complexion. This starts with the skin, after years of having trends with heavier foundation - like the 2016 Instagram makeup - the people needed something refreshing, and staying home during the pandemic and having to focus on skin health for a while (due to the lack of occasion for going out and dolling up) paved the way for more natural trends.

A “clean girl” takes care of herself, tries her best to remain ethical, maybe attends pilates classes, drinks water, does slick back hairstyles, wears minimalist jewelry and clothing in basic colors, and a makeup that glows from within, it’s so simple yet so effective that it makes you believe this girl showered a little extra or something. The face consists of bushy/organic brows, more skincare and less foundation, dewy base products, minimal eyeshadow, curly lashes with some mascara on them, and nude, maybe glossy lips. 

This whole aesthetic is an idea of what a girl who has her life put together looks like, inspired in celebrities like Hailey Bieber. But I’m just not into it, it’s a cute look, but it’s boring to it’s core. A girl can have everything going well for her, and enjoy trashy makeup. One of the advantages of this great tool is you’re meant to have fun with it, which is what I would love to see more: fun looks. Thankfully, I think this is happening, and the end of the “clean girl” is closer every day.
